There’s increasing and energising consensus that regulators, public health, and industry need to come together and demonstrate collective leadership around tobacco harm reduction (THR) on behalf of the world’s billion-plus adult smokers.
Openness, transparency, and collaboration clearly enhance the scientific understanding of next generation products (NGP) – providing adult smoker and nicotine consumers with the greatest opportunity to make informed choices about their health.
To engender genuine change, harm reduction academics/scientists and industry must break free from their respective echo chambers to better engage with public health, regulatory bodies and consumers.
We invite critique of our science through the process of peer-review in international scientific journals, and the regular presentation of our research at international conferences.
Some of the scientific and THR-focused events we regularly attend include:

We share our scientific research with national and international technical standards bodies, including the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN), to help develop robust testing and manufacturing standards.
These activities help align testing, promote substantiative science, and foster supportive trading environments – while discouraging anti-competitive behaviour.
Find out more about the important role product technical standards play in NGP here.
Imperial Brands is also an active member of the Cooperation Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco (CORESTA).
CORESTA was founded in 1956, and exists to promote the vital importance of international industry collaboration – and, increasingly, external collaboration with public health and regulators – focusing on scientific research around combustible tobacco and NGP.
We communicate our research widely through digital channels including this website and the IMB Science LinkedIn, the Imperial Brands corporate website and LinkedIn channel, and our consumer-centric science & innovation brochure, Beyond Smoke.
Finally, we also make all our data publicly available in our comprehensive research archive.
We hope you enjoy exploring it!
