CORESTA (Cooperation Centre for Scientific Research Relative to Tobacco) is an organisation that plays a vital role in fostering intra- and extra-industry collaboration around combustible tobacco and next generation product (NGP) science.
Their latest Product Science and Product Technology (PSPT) Conference took place in Annecy, France between 19-23 October, with Imperial Brands presenting a raft of new data from across our Scientific Assessment Framework (SAF).

Our toxicologists introduced a new approach to NGP risk assessment, focusing on tobacco-free oral nicotine flavours. We also showcased new in-vitro data demonstrating how high-content screening of Zone tobacco-free nicotine pouch extracts demonstrated significant reductions in human cell toxicity compared to cigarette smoke.
Our clinical colleagues investigated puffing topographies of our PULZE & iD heated tobacco and iSENZIA heated herbal products. The data revealed consistent patterns in use behaviour that support tobacco harm reduction (THR)-based strategies to transition adult smokers away from cigarettes.

Our behavioural scientists presented more data from our two ‘actual use’ studies in the UK – where we demonstrated close-to-real-world THR through adult smoker participants switching from cigarettes to blu vapes. The research also presented compelling evidence around the importance of flavours in heling to drive THR.

Finally, our computational science team presented their work on dynamic population health modelling. Their focus? A potential vape flavour ban in the UK – and the ensuing concerning increase in both smoking, and smoking-related harm – if such legislation came to pass.
Imperial Brands continues to generate substantive data across our SAF as part of our commitment to make a meaningful contribution to harm reduction through NGP – backed by consumer-centric science and innovation, responsible manufacturing, and trusted brands.
