//Clinical Study suggests PULZE & iSENZIA offers adult smokers a potentially harm reduced alternative to cigarettes

Imperial Brands continues to conduct a wealth of next generation product (NGP) research across all stages of our scientific assessment framework.

Among these are clinical studies, where we compare our NGP to cigarettes to better understand their tobacco harm reduction potential.

Our current heated NGP is PULZE 2.0, which heated – but didn’t burn – iD tobacco consumables.

This year, we launched a new type of heated consumable – iSENZIA, herbal sticks containing a tea-based substrate to which pharmaceutical-grade nicotine is added, instead of tobacco leaves.

To understand more about PULZE 2.0 & iSENZIA from a clinical perspective, we recruited adult smoker subjects to understand whether the system:

  • Delivered nicotine efficiently to subjects’ bloodstreams.
  • Reduced their desire to smoke.
  • Had a favourable short-term safety and tolerability profile.

We also investigated puffing behaviours, to understand whether subjects used the PULZE 2.0 heated system in a similar way to smoking cigarettes.

The results were promising.
